Dr. Bridget Lyons has trained for a large number of banks including Morgan Stanley, Citibank, Deutsche Bank, but by far most of her work has been with Goldman Sachs. She has provided training in financial analysis, forecasting/modeling and valuation to several thousand Goldman Sachs analysts over the past 15 years. For over 12 years she also provided training at the World Bank Group.

Improve your ability to analyze financial statements, benchmark firms and understand key differences between IFRS and US GAAP.  These skills will translate immediately as you enhance your ability to manage your own bottom line and benchmark against competitors.  Financial analysis provides the basis for financial forecasting, capital budgeting, credit and valuation decisions.

Program Summary

Financial Analysis is a two-day workshop (tailored to participant needs) designed for individuals seeking to develop skills in reading and interpreting financial statements and to set the stage for analyzing credit capacity and enterprise and equity valuation.  During the workshop participants create Excel models to analyze and benchmark the financial statements of real firms.

Completion of the program will enable you to

  • Analyze and interpret financial information and reports, including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statements

  • Incorporate macro/industry/firm context into financial analysis

  • Read audit opinions

  • Critically review the income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows with a focus on metrics important in credit and valuation decisions such as revenue recognition, expenses, operating working capital, capital requirements and free cash flow

  • Calculate and interpret common financial ratios

  • Examine and use the notes to the financial statements

  • Understand complex accounts including goodwill and intangibles, leases, non controlling interests and investments in affiliates

  • Gain familiarity with key differences between US GAAP and IFRS

    Develop the skills to build a financial forecast in Excel including an income statement, balance sheet and statement of cash flows.  In addition you will examine a variety of approaches to forecast revenues and costs and will learn to create scenarios to analyze base case and other possible future outcomes.

    Financial Modeling and Forecasting is a two-day program designed to provide you with the skills to construct an integrated financial forecast.
