Natalie Retter (MBA with internship, ‘15) is one of SHU’s best ambassadors to prove it. Retter moved to Luxembourg from Ethiopia and changed her career path from working in an NGO to now, in a tax advisory firm.
A challenging transition, which was made easier with the proper guidance from SHU, Natalie shares she is now happy with the career path she has chosen for herself.
November 24, 2016—Jakob’s House in Clausen saw a spectacular evening as SHU students and alumni came out to celebrate Thanksgiving at the SHU Alumni Networking Drink. The event was more than just a platform for networking as SHU announced the new 2017-2018 Board Members of the SHU Luxembourg Alumni Association.
Meet the new SHU Luxembourg Alumni Association Board Members:

The newly appointed SHU Luxembourg Alumni Association will implement a fresh policy of a rotating presidency. Each year a different member of the board will take the reigns as president in an effort to diversify and implement the varying approaches each member brings to the table. Larissa Best (MBA ’15) will take on the role as President for the 2017-2018 calendar year. Best, along with Board Members, Aurélie Maire and Chris Marcilla, will propose and moderate assorted activities to help facilitate the relationships between SHU students and the SHULA. Part of Thursday’s announcement included a proposal to organize various subcommittees within the SHULA organization.
Julian Troian, Adjunct Professor of Management at SHU, bags the HR Manager of the Year Award at 14th Luxembourg HR Awards, 2016
Sacred Heart University congratulates Adjunct Professor, Julian Troian for winning the HR Manager of the Year Award (Etix Everywhere) at the 14th Luxembourg HR Awards. The event organized by Gala HR One is a flagship event for HR Professionals.
The team of Etix Everywhere also won the HR Team of the Year Award which included SHU student, Tanya McEvoy, who’s currently working as Head of Etix Academy, an innovative concept for learning and training. The academy aims to provide employees with a revolutionary learning experience that is tailor-made to each individual so that they may learn and grow continuously throughout their career.
Etix Everywhere is a fast growing, high tech company designing and deploying state of the art Data Centers worldwide.
SHU caught up with Julian Troian for an exclusive chat.
SHU: Julian, you’ve just won the HR Manager of the Year prize. How do you feel?
It is an honour and a privilege to receive this recognition. The pride is even bigger if I consider the great challenge I accepted only 2 years ago and if I look at the amount of innovations we were able to deploy with my amazing, young, inspiring team.

SHU: You’ve been in your position for only 2 years now. How did you develop your strategy ?
I accepted the challenge and left my previous employer where I was HR Director EMEA of a large multinational, because I wanted to see whether it was actually possible to translate all the theories I love discussing with my students in class into action. Can we build an engaging place to work from day one?
When I joined Etix Everywhere I was employee “number seven” and the plan was to rapidly scale the size of the company in order to sustain the growing demand of our customers for our innovative solutions.
I obtained from the founder, a full mandate on people operations and he kept his word and never interfered.
I immediately scaled my team and recruited Tanya McEvoy (SHU, MBA ’16) who was one of the most talented students of my class, back in 2014. Daphné joined us only a couple of weeks later and the adventure begun.
SHU: What is so unique about the recruiting process at Etix Everywhere?
Companies have to stop hunting talents and re-formatting them from the very first moment they join, so that they look like all the other colleagues (cloning). Our goal is to create conditions for each individual to shine; to show his or her full potential and unleash the power of natural talents.
We give huge attention to the onboarding of new staff and our caring starts even before they join. As of the interviewing stage, we want anyone coming to the Etix Everywhere office to feel at home, welcomed and relaxed. We try to create the best possible conditions to experience the interview as a natural moment rather than a stressful trial.
Once the newcomer has signed his/her contract we start preparing for their arrival, which is not just about logistics. A “godfather” welcomes the new colleague on day one and he will take care of the introduction to the rest of the team. The new format allows the newbie to actually choose his/her “godfather” before joining Etix Everywhere. In fact, all those who are available to be godfathers have filled in a really nice individual page (complete with personal info about passion, hobbies, music, movies, etc.), and the new colleague can actually choose the one that “suits” him/her best.
There’s a lot more to come, as we are only at the very beginning of this great journey.
One of the next challenges is to stop using the word “Resources” when talking about the women and the men in our organizations.

Full Circle: How One Student’s Journey to Luxembourg for Love, Brought Him to SHU
Edward Henry took a leap of faith when he moved to Luxembourg for his [now] fiancée in 2014—leaving behind his well-established career in the U.S.A.—to start fresh in the European Capital of Luxembourg.
Starting from scratch in a multilingual and multicultural country like Luxembourg is not a cakewalk.
Edward’s only hope for making a professional transition, he says, was to go back to being a student and pursue an MBA at the Sacred Heart University Jack Welch College of Business in Luxembourg. The MBA with internship program at SHU Lux was the perfect fit. Known for being an ‘opportunity provider’ for its students, SHU opened its doors to Edward, and brought to light his opportunities in the Luxembourg job market.
And the rest is history…
After graduating in 2015, Edward Henry, MBA, is now an Internal Auditor at Grohe Group.
